Mules,
donkeys and yes even horses are accepted for training following prior
approval and discussion with on-site trainer. All trainees must go through
a Foundation Training Program suited to each individual animal with ample
time to be socialized with others and emphasis on sacking out in order to
develop emotional control and detuned flight responses.

Basic
Foundation Training includes but is not limited to catching, haltering,
trimming, tying, tacking, ground driving, free longing, wearing a pack
saddle, ponying, riding in round pen and arena, trail riding and trailer
loading if needed. Minimum training of 90 days is recommended for best
possible results particularly for colts or older animals in need of
retraining and attitude adjustments. All trainees are started Western or
English by request.
Owners
are updated personally by the trainer on a weekly basis. Owners must spend a
minimum of one visit with their mule or donkeys prior to going home to
ensure the best possible transition and continuity in the home environment.
Calls and questions are always encouraged and appreciated.
All
trainees are maintained on a diet best suited to healthy body weight and are
turned out
on off days to avoid sour attitudes and frustration due to living in a
corral. We are happy to discuss any individual preferences you may have
(i.e., feed type). All tack for training use is owned by the trainer/ranch
including halters.
We have
designed the training facilities to the special needs of longears,
especially for mules that tend to be much harder on equipment than donkeys
or horses due to their superior strength and intelligence. 10ft high fenced
round pen, snubbing post and tie rails set in to the ground with concrete
and pens adjacent to the training area to keep each trainee focused on the
job at hand.
All
trainees are exposed to and partnered with other mules/donkeys that already
possess the desired characteristics. This is a unique feature at Rock-n-Easy
Ranch because we have the total overall population to expose each mule and
donkey to positive role models. We have found this to be highly
successful, particularly with smoothing out a dominant or flighty
personality.
Please call well in advance of your intended training
timeframe as room is available on a first come first serve basis and must be
shared with ranch animals also in training.
Our fee structure has never been
raised to make training affordable to all and all prices include full board,
feed and turn outs. Veterinary and farrier services are available at
additional cost upon request. Vaccination records will be required by
arrival date.
